Lost Hall of Tyr (2nd Edition) is Live on Kickstarter
over 5 years ago – Fri, Dec 07, 2018 at 11:40:23 AM

When I first published Lost Hall of Tyr, it wasn't what I wanted it to be. Not enough art, the maps weren't anything special, and the convention-style romp (2-4 hour one-shot) didn't explore the awesome viking-inspired setting that I had set the adventure within.

Thanks to the publication of the Dragon Heresy Introductory Set and the expansion of the 1st edition supplement into the much larger Hall of Judgment version for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG, I had the art, the contacts, and the content to make Lost Hall of Tyr what it should have been all along: pretty much what Hall of Judgment is already.

With that said: Lost Hall of Tyr (2nd Edition) is now LIVE on Kickstarter!

Y'all are entirely responsible for that, and you have my thanks.

So if you already have Hall of Judgment, why would you want Lost Hall 2nd Edition?

In truth, you might not. Most, if not all, of the information in it is already in your hands. The first goal, however, is to upgrade those digital maps for the combat encounters to the same style that Glynn used for Logiheimli, the Norðalf Warrens, and the main Norðlond and Domstollinn maps. If (when!) we fund, I will push out a new PDF for HoJ with the new maps in it for y'all, for free.

But that doesn't mean you can't help.

Dragon Heresy is in some ways like the results of a slightly-tipsy liaison between GURPS and That Other Game. It's got more interesting rules for shields, grappling, heck, you can even Aim and Evaluate. It's a good stepping stone for those that really only play 5e but you want to lure to your own tables.

If you DO play Dragon Heresy or 5e, then you know what you're getting: a pre-converted romp for those games that gives you Hall of Judgment in that format.

This isn't exactly a hard sell, and that's for a reason: y'all have helped me huge already. So this is a soft ask:

  • If you play Dragon Heresy, please help support the line
  • If you have friends who play 5e and you want to help me do more not just for Dragon Heresy, but also for the Dungeon Fantasy RPG, share the link with them and have them check it out.

That's all I can ask from y'all, who have already done your fair share . . . and don't worry: there are THREE more Norðlond Dungeon Fantasy RPG adventures in the works, coming in 2019. I have not forgotten my best fanbase!

Theoretical Question: hardcover vs softcover?
over 5 years ago – Tue, Nov 27, 2018 at 12:26:36 AM

So.

Let's pretend there is a sister adventure to Hall of Judgment. Or a set of them. Twins and triplets have been known to happen. As with the first, it would be 8x10" to match the box set.
Very technical details: Assume sewn binding on 85# or 100# matte paper (128 or 150gsm). Full color. Figure 64 or 80 pages.
Softcover vs hardcover?
  • Softcover tends to be the exact trim size of the paper: books will fit in the box.
  • Hardcover the covers are bigger; they won't fit in the box. But they'd be very nicely made. They'd obviously be more expensive.
This is a theoretical exercise for now, just trying to understand the lay of the land. Which would you prefer, and why?

Admin: Gaming Ballistic on the Web

Hall of Judgment was my most recent Kickstarter, so if you're reading this as a backer, it's probably mostly old news.

Even so: Gaming Ballistic isn't a one-hit wonder, and we've got a lot more coming in 2019 (and maybe one more thing in 2018 if I can swing it).

So if you're looking for

Meet Me at Dorkstock: Gamehole Con
over 5 years ago – Mon, Oct 29, 2018 at 12:08:12 PM

It is now less than two weeks to GameHole Con.

AAAAHHHHH!!!!!

I mean, it should be easy. I've got Hall of Judgment. I've got maps. I've got pre-gens. And my Saturday even, from 8pm to Midnight, is filled up!

Friday, though: Friday never changes. Wait, no. Wrong movie.

There are still seats open for the Friday game of Hall of Judgment, which will be held in the DorkStock mini-con area. Not only will John Kovalic be there, but Steve Jackson and I believe Phil Reed will be in residence.

Plus, you can meet me, if that's of interest. I don't really have a firm schedule other than the two games I'm running. I deliberately did this so I can wander the con, chat with folks, and play any RPGs that strike my fancy, assuming seats are open.

In any case if you're going to be at GameHole, and are looking for something to do on a Friday:

Hall of Judgment (4 hrs)

  • Fri 4 PM
  • Role Playing Game | GURPS | Mendota1 - 7 Some Gaming Experience | Teens and Up (13+) | $4.00
  • Presented By : Dorkstock featuring Douglas Cole

I hope to see you there!

Actual Play report from Hall of Judgment
over 5 years ago – Fri, Oct 26, 2018 at 09:50:17 PM

Hall of Judgment produced a - even if I do say so myself - fine, playable, good-looking product. Even so, it's nice when a creator gets feedback, and my ego appreciates stroking as much as the next man.

Even better than compliments on the book itself is that most Fremen of compliments: "Your plan worked, Muad'Dib." In short, as Peter Dell'Orto would say: "Did it work in Actual Play?"

The link that follows is a bit of an instigated post. Simone De Bellis posted that he was playing Hall of Judgment with his group, and had gone through several sessions worth. I nudged him to write up a play report, and he willingly obliged.

Without further ado:
